Michael Ormerod: States of America
Publisher: CornerHouse Publications
Publication Date: 1993
Binding: Soft cover
Condition: Near Fine
Edition: 1st
Softcover, 112 pgs. 11" x 9". 73 duotone and 24 color illustrations. Near fine+, with very light edge/surface wear. Scarce book published to coincide with the exhibition of Michael Ormerod's 'States of America' at the Zelda Cheatle Gallery, London. Although he is a British photographer, Ormerod was fascinated by the American dream and American life. This book was published two years after Ormerod passed away in a traffic accident in 1991. After traveling to the United States many times, Ormerod depicted another America that deviated from capitalist society, such as desolate lands, rusty cityscapes with few people, and rural people represented by cowboys and motorbike riders. It is a beautiful and somewhat lonely road movie that recalls the documentaries left by previous masters such as Lee Friedlander and William Eggleston. A masterpiece of a private documentary that expresses the charm and current state of good old America from an exceptional perspective through a mixture of black and white and color illustrations.
